CREDITON RFC COLTS XV 24-12 BIDEFORD
THE Colts headed to Bideford looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Devon Colts Competition.
Thanks must go to the ground staff at Victoria Park who worked tirelessly spiking the pitch and pumping away standing water making the pitch playable.
We travelled full of confidence, but from the kick-off it was obvious that the home side were determined to end our run of results.
Early domination of territory and possession yielded little for the Kirton lads as handling errors and a very organised and spirited defence held us out.
Bideford used the possession they had well, leading to a well-constructed converted try to lead 7-0. We responded well and Number Eight Solomon Plowman touched down next with Ollie Harris converting to toe things up at 7-7. Just before the half-time break, Bideford scored again and with the conversion attempt going wide, they lead 12-7.
During the break, lead by skipper Ozzie Kent, stern words were spoken and the challenge laid down. The eight replacements were to raise the intensity and tempo and the rest were to follow. Credit to the lads, they delivered. The blend of physicality and strategy took the game away from the home side.
Two close range tries from Hayden Vooght and Plowman stretched the lead before, with the home side taking necessary risks, Harris intercepted an ill-timed pass to score the final try. Harris converted one to make the full time score 12-24.
In their impressive run, this was the sternest test the lads have faced so far, but they dug deep and found a way!
