EXETER School sixth former Phoebe Campbell has taken fourth place in the World Rowing Junior Championships, held in Trakai, Lithuania in August.
Phoebe represented the Great Britain crew who trained together at Pangbourne and Caversham before flying out to Lithuania three days before the competition.
A record entry of 742 rowers in 258 boats from 59 countries was received for the 13-event competition. Team GB made it through to the A final, which was won by Romania, with Germany only a half second behind.
At the half-way stage GB were in a podium position but were pushed out of bronze by Switzerland in the second half of the 2km race to finish fourth overall.
The USA crew finished fifth and the Netherlands sixth.
Phoebe said it was an incredible experience and will hopefully set her up well for the Junior World Championships next year.
“Exeter School has been amazingly supportive and massively understanding when I’ve been under a lot of pressure,” she said.
“I really would not have managed to juggle schoolwork and training without the help of my teachers.”
And Phoebe’s excellent AS Level results with A grades in every subject show that she is successfully handling both.
