LORDS Meadow Leisure Centre in Crediton is to open its doors to showcase facilities and activities available to the whole community - where ability and age are no barriers.
Everyone is invited to attend a free Open Activity Afternoon at the leisure centre on Saturday, March, 21 from 12 noon to 5pm.
In association with Upstream, The Turning Tides Project, Living Options and supported by Active Devon, the event will offer a wide range of free activities and free taster sessions that are accessible to all, as well as information stands.
The event will enable disabled residents to experience activities that are available at the centre and allow non-disabled friends, family and carers to enjoy the facilities together in a relaxed, informal atmosphere.
It will also help the centre to better develop an ongoing programme of accessible activities to be introduced from July 2015.
There will be friendly instructors and coaches on-hand to talk to and answer any questions people may have, offer guided tours of the Fitness Studio and give expert advice.
It will be a good opportunity to meet others interested in being active and to try something new in an informal way.
The coffee shop will be open and a warm welcome awaits.
There will be swimming, badminton, short mat bowls, squash, Boccia, racquetball, table tennis, trampolining, bouncy castle and soft play available.
There will also be a programme of taster sessions including a falls prevention workshop, seated exercise class, street dancing, taiko drumming, a dance workshop, "Aquafit" (water aerobics) sessions, "rookie" lifeguarding, gentle circuits, yoga, Pilates, parent and child "Aquatots" fun pool sessions and more, all adapted to suit the abilities of those attending.
Devon Football Association will be providing a free, fun, inclusive football activity with coaching, multi skills and games for all abilities.
There is no need to book, although groups are asked to let the centre know which activities they will be attending.
Lords Meadow Leisure Centre offers a wealth of opportunities to become more active and enjoy living a healthy lifestyle - one that is inclusive to the whole community.
The centre welcomes all those who would like to find activities that suit their abilities and interests.
The Open Activity Afternoon will be an ideal opportunity to meet the team, try something new and find out what is available on the doorstep.
