THE achievements of a member of Crediton Professional Unification of Martial Arts (PUMA) Taekwon-Do have been praised by his tutor.

Louis Haslam (15), of Crediton, a student at classes run at Lords Meadow Leisure Centre by IV degree black belt, Dave Powlesland, achieved a second degree black belt with a credit pass at a National Grading held at Swindon, Wiltshire.

At the event he was also judged the Best Junior at the National Black Belt grading.

Mr Powlesland said it was a “massive achievement” for Louis.

He said: “Louis has been a member of my classes here at Crediton since he was four years of age, starting in Little Puma’s.

“Eleven years later, after a lot of hard work he has achieved his second degree black belt which is recognised all around the world and he was also judged Best Junior at the grading.”

Mr Powlesland added that he was doubly proud of Louis because, for the last three years, he has been a member of the PUMA’s national demonstration squad, called the Flowering Youth Group.

Crediton PUMA Taekwon-Do classes are held at Lords Meadow Leisure Centre on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings and at Copplestone on Wednesday evenings.
