ON Monday, May 9, Downes Crediton Golf Club hosted its May Seniors Open, which saw more than 100 players from around the South West County compete in a pairs Betterball Stableford.

Overall victory went to the home duo of Tony Blackburn and Graham Knowles who posted a superb score of 46 points beating Jim Dunlop (DCGC) and Malcolm Hughes (Teign Valley), who also scored 46 points by virtue of a better back nine holes.

Dunlop and Hughes secured the top prize for a mixed home and away team whilst Mark Pillar and Mark Smith from Torquay Golf Club, who scored 43 points, were the leading visitors with Peter Johnson and Trevor Stone (44 points) the best home pair.

The mid-week stableford winner was James Bourner who scored 42 points on Wednesday, May 11.

The Annual Ladies Spring Meeting was played on Thursday, May 12 and it saw Viviane Bailey shoot a nett 74 to post the best score of the day as well as topping Division 2.

In Division 1 Doreen Warren scored a nett 75 to win whilst Angela Storey scored a gross 96 to win the scratch prize. The best 9 hole score was won by Joe Coe who scored a nett 38.

The Chairman’s Cup and May Monthly Medal was played on Saturday, May 14 and with the course in superb condition there was some fine scoring. Best of the day was a terrific nett 64 (six under) from Paul Conabeare which also saw him top Division Two.

In Division One Ben Marchant scored a nett 67 (three under) for victory whilst Kate Cornish prevailed in Division Three posting a nett 66 (four under).

Best scratch score of the day went to Robert Whittleston who scored a gross 75.
