THE golf season is now beginning to get busy again. Many stalwarts will have played throughout the winter. The hardiest of golfers play in all weathers.
However some, like yours truly, prefer it when the sun shines in the wind doesn’t blow!
As the weather improves there are more opportunities to play, and the main Saturday competitions at Downes Crediton can exceed 100 competitors.
The Ladies Section at Downes have two regular times each week.
One is a nine hole competition, and on the other day there is a nine hole and an18 hole event.
The nine hole roll up competition each week is a friendly and fun event suitable for ladies with a handicap or trying to get their handicap.
There is a mixture of team, pairs and individual events.
From the beginning of November until the end of March there is a nine hole Winter League. Points are awarded to players depending on which position they finish, and these are added up to find the trophy winner.
This year's Winter League has concluded and the trophy winner was Anne Woodger, with Jill Yates runner up, and Di Parsons in third place.
In a change to our Ladies calendar, the roll up will be moving to Thursday mornings from Thursday, April 2.
New members are very welcome, just contact the club if you are interested in joining in. The main 18 and nine hole competitions will now be on a Tuesday morning.
The ladies also play inter club competitions and mixed friendlies throughout the season.
As well as the ladies events, the competitions this week included the Wednesday open and the Thursday evening stableford.
The course was looking wonderful as over 100 players took part in the Saturday 4BBB event.
The winners were John Huskinson and Alan Drysdale with 44 points.
