WITH the golf course looking in a wonderful condition, Saturday, April 2 saw Downes Crediton Golf Club men play in the first handicap qualifier of the season - the Captains Charity Stableford.

Posting the best score of the day was Matt Smith with a fine 42 points off of his 26 handicap that also saw him take top spot in Division Three.

Following on in second place in Division Three, scoring 39 points, was Tony Sykes with Robbie Hallam third scoring 36.

Matt Arnold started his season in great style scoring a gross 74 for 38 stableford points and a one point victory over Dave Woodstock in Division One. Simon Baker scored 36 points to finish third.

Gerry Hodder took the spoils in Division Two posting 37 points beating Jack Cross (36) into second place by a single point. Mike Hammond followed on in third place, also with 36 points, but losing out on the back nine.

Sunday, April 3 saw Downes Crediton start their challenge for the Dartmoor League with a fine away victory over Bovey Castle.

Captain Graham Dyne and vice captain Mike Nott were very happy with their team’s efforts as some fine performances saw a season opening 4-1 win.
