ONE of the many competitions during the last week that had a significant purpose, was the Ladies Stableford “Pink Day” on Thursday.

The purpose behind the competition was to support Breast Cancer Pink Day.

October is traditionally Breast Cancer awareness month, and over this period many organisations arrange activities that contribute to this very worthy cause, which provides support for research and vital support for those affected by the disease.

Our ladies supported the charity with this competition, and the donations received from the participants. We didn’t get a photo on this occasion, so we have used one from a previous year to share the fun!

Earlier in the week, on Monday, September 15, as the weather forecasters had predicted, it was very windy day, with squally showers and occasional glimpses of blue sky.

This provided a challenging backdrop for the Seniors competition. It was the turn of the clubs grandads to brave the elements and show what they could do.

Looking at the start sheet before the competition, it became apparent the a number of grandads thought they would sit this one out, and who could blame them!

A field of 24 players, most of them grandads, set out to take on the elements, and the course.

It was a day of low scoring and the eventual winner was Kevin Balding with a score of 32 points.

The first grandad across the line was John Dean in third place, and is this years winner of the trophy. The trophy goes back a good few years, presented to the club by Lyn Ashman.

It provides one of the many enjoyable competitions in the Seniors calendar.

On Saturday there was another very good field entered for the Jordan Cup and September Medal.

Steve Heale was the winner with a very creditable score of 62.
