DOWNES Crediton Golf Club seniors played for the Chris Horgan Trophy (a three clubs and putter stableford) on Monday, March 27 and as always, even with 10 less clubs, there was some fine scoring.
Herbie Smith took the overall victory scoring a fine 42 points whilst also topping Division Two. John Bingham and Joe Hull followed in second and third respectively, a point further back, both posting 41 points.
John Essery scored 39 points to take victory in Division One with David Vowden second (38 pts) and Graham Browne third (38 pts).
Downes Ladies played on Thursday, March 29 in a Captain’s Charity Stableford and Ying Wong took the overall win scoring 34 points.
Ying’s total was two clear of her nearest challenger, Doreen Warren, who posted 32 points for second spot with Tracey Chandler following in third scoring 31 points.
Saturday, April 1 saw the “Summer Course” played for the first time this year as Downes’ Men competed in the Captain’s Charity Stableford.
With the course in fine condition Adam Hull took the overall victory scoring an impressive four under par 40 points to beat Michael White (40 pts) with better back nine holes.
This total also gave Adam victory in Division Two with Graham Browne (39 pts) second and Ali Sawyer third posting 36 points.
Division One saw a win for Matt Coates scoring 38 points, a total which Maurice Curtis (38 pts) equalled but finished second by virtue of the back nine. Pete Lawrence posted 37 points to take third.
Division Three was won by Michael White with his 40 points whilst Tim Staite took second topping a number of players scoring 39 points. Frank Morrell (39 pts) finished third.
Downes Crediton Dartmoor League team started the defence of their Dartmoor League crown on Sunday, April 2 with a fine 4.5 – 0.5 victory.
Captain Graham Dyne was overjoyed with his team’s start and has high hopes for the season ahead.
