DOWNES Crediton Golf Club seniors played a three player team Medalford on Monday, January 16 and there was some fine scoring.

Keith Blake, Andy Scoots and David Warren were the winners putting together a 13 under par total of 25 points to beat David Cousins, Graham Cox and Martin Howe (25 pts) with a better back nine.

Keith Ham, Ed Copp and Barry Lias followed in third place scoring 29 points, nine under par, with Alan Willey, Gerry Hodder and Peter Stunell (29 pts) in fourth place.

Downes’ ladies played a nine hole Stableford before then attending their AGM on Thursday, January 19. Outgoing Lady Captain, Liz Mapson, scored the top score of the day posting 21 points to take the victory.

Fran Shrubsole took second place scoring 16 points and beating Doreen Warren (16 pts) and Joyce Gilg (16 pts) into third and fourth respectively courtesy of a better back nine holes.

Grandad and grandson Frank Morrell and Josh Hill were the stars of the weekend competition on Saturday, January 21 scoring a better ball pairs stableford score of 45 points to take top spot by two clear points.

Five pairs followed a further two points behind with Nick Murch and John Ponsford (43 pts) finishing second with the best of the back nines whilst Clive Elliott and Alan Draper (43 pts) were third.

Tony Sykes and Fran Shrubsole won the mixed division scoring 42 points.
