DOWNES Crediton Golf Club administrator and professional Devon Greenslade was announced last week as the next Devon Professional Golfers’ Alliance vice-captain for 2017/2018, meaning his captaincy will run throughout the 2018/19 season.

Devon said: “This is a great honour and a privilege to be chosen by my peers to take on this role at such a young age.”

Downes Seniors competed in a Team Texas Scramble on Monday, November 20, with the trio of Peter Dewhurst, Steve Gidley and Mike Hammond taking the win scoring a nett 66.

John Dean, Phillip Lee and Graham Pateman equalled the winners total (nett 66) but lost out on the back nine to take second whilst Kev Woolacott, Pete Carr and Jim Kenshole were the best of the 67’s to lie third.

Downes members played their Spirit Stableford on Saturday, November 25, which was open to all sections of the club.

Top score on the day went to Josh Hill with a fine 40 points, a score that also saw him top Division Two.

Richard Dyer (38 points) followed in second with Richard Belcher third scoring 37 points. Division One saw three players all post 38 points with Mike Nott taking victory courtesy on a better back nine.

Jason Arnold finished second with Ben Rowe taking third. Di Botterill topped Division Three scoring an impressive 37 points to beat Podge Edgecumbe (37 points) into second by virtue of a better back nine whilst Mike White scored 36 to take third.

Devon Greenslade took 34 Downes members, along with home Pro Barry Austin, to Saunton Golf Club on Sunday, November 26, to enjoy a fun away day playing the formidable East Course.

On a windy day Downes legend, Martin Garnsey, won with an impressive 35 points whilst Barry Austin took second and Mike Delling third, importantly though a great days golf was had by all.
