IT was an amazing week for Okehampton Golf Club.

The Ladies Still Cup (scratch) and the Ladies President’s (HCP) teams both battled their way through the knock-out stages to earn themselves a place in the County Finals Day, which was held at Tiverton Golf Club on Friday, September 29.

This is only the second time Okehampton ladies have entered the Still Cup (the most prestigious County Team Trophy) and they were up against the ladies from Saunton.

Okehampton won the first three matches but needed a fourth to secure the trophy.

The remaining matches were very tense with both teams being all-square on the 18th hole, which meant Okehampton had to go up the first again.

After a nail-biting finish Okehampton secured their victory on the 19th hole.  The President’s team were out next to try and defend their title but despite their very best efforts they were runners-up to a very strong ladies team from Ilfracombe.

Congratulations to all the Okehampton ladies and a big “thank you” to all the supporters.

On Saturday, September 30 an individual medal competition for the Stanley Bridges Salver (best gross) was contested and the winner of the trophy with an excellent gross 69 nett 68 was Lee Carey.

Division One was won by Steve Heyes with nett 64, Darren Prouse was second with nett 67 and Phil Atherton was third also with nett 67.

Kerry Skinner was the winner of Division Two with nett 69, Reggie Wonnacott was second with nett 70 and third place went to Graham Pengelly with nett 71.

Division Three was won by David Haines-Lawson with nett 66, Steve Squires was second with nett 69 and in third place with nett 70, was Brian May.

On Sunday, October 1, Okehampton Golf Club held its annual Devon v The Rest of the World Betterball contest with all the scores added from each side together to find the winner and once again Devon were the victors.

This was followed by a trophy presentation and Annual General Meeting (AGM).
