DOWNES seniors competed in a team 1-3-2 Stableford on Monday, October 30 and victorious were the trio of Mike Conder, Dennis Wright and Dave Vowden scoring a fine two under par 74 points. Mike Charnock, Eric Mundy and John Rance (71 pts), who had lead for a big part of the day, finished second whilst John Warren, Herbie Smith and Simon Mannell (70 pts) placed third.

Di Botterill and Sue Sparham won the Ladies Greensomes Stableford, played on Thursday, November 2, posting a superb 37 points beating Rickie Pawsey and Doreen Warren (36pts) into second by a single point. Sue Barr and Joyce Gilg scored 33 points to finish third.

With the course in superb condition Downes men played their November Medal on Saturday, November 4.

With a strong wind blowing across the course it seemed like no one was going to break par until a surge late in the day saw three players achieve it with Will Cockerham posting a tremendous nett 63, seven under par, to take the overall victory. Cockerham also won Divison Two with Nick Murch (nett 70) second and Brian Kelly (nett 70) third.

Steve Whyte took the spoils in Division One scoring a nett 70 to beat Andy Frankum (nett 70) into second by virtue of a better back nine whilst James Bourner placed third scoring a nett 71.

Ashley Rookes won Division Three, posting a nett 65 with Simon March (nett 67) second and John Rance (nett 71) third.

Neil Bishop and Gerry Tomlinson created the fireworks on Sunday, November 5, to score a nett 72 and win the men’s Daily Mail Foursomes Qualifier.

They now go on to represent the club in 2018 in the National Daily Mail Foursomes. Tristan Kershaw and Steve Whyte (nett 73) were placed second with Jim Dunlop and Dave Sims (nett 74) third.
