There was a great round of applause from the crowd and players for Dave as he walked through the guard of honour.

There was then the customary shaking of hands before a team photo of Dave’s XI.

During the day there was a barbecue and other refreshments available and afterwards the clubhouse and bar was open.

Club President Dave Blanchford paid tribute to Dave Lee saying: “Dave has been a loyal servant to the club.

“He came to us as a 12-year-old and has been loyal all these years.

“He was our Club Captain for 12 years, maybe more, thanks Dave.”

Mr Blanchford added thanks to everyone at Crediton Football Club for making it a very pleasant day for Dave.

He continued: “The weather was kind to us and we had a barbecue run by my wife Monica, eldest daughter Ann and youngest daughter Sue.

“I’d like to thank Andre and Dave who ran the tea shed and to Jill for the draw.

“Well done also to our young referee Reece who came in very late to save the day and our two linesman Martin and Ben.

“Thanks also to Ian for the commentary and all who came along.”

The result was 6-0 to Crediton United whose fitness and youth showed through during the later stages of the game.
