SATURDAY, September 12 was cup day at Sandford when they entertained Bere Alston in the first round of the Devon Intermediate Cup.
On a bright sunny afternoon with the pitch looking greener than it has for months, Sandford kicked off playing away from the pavilion end and were the first to attack.
The visitors had their first real chance when they shot wide after 8 minutes, and in the 17th minute after a mistake in the Sandford defence they scored, 0-1.
Five minutes later after a Sandford break down the right wing the ball came across the goal and Rowan Bosacki headed home to level the scores, 1-1.
Halftime approached with neither side creating many chances, both sides struggling to get control of the ball.
The second half started with Sandford attacking and on 49 minutes Dylan Cavender scored to put the home side in front, 2-1.
Five minutes later the visitors levelled the score, 2-2.
The game improved with chances at each end and on the 64th minute Bere Alston again took the lead when a long ball split the home defence, 2-3.
Sandford now had more of the play searching for the equaliser and nearly scored when a Sam Reeves shot was fumbled by the keeper who just managed to keep it from going in.
On 73 minutes midfielder Henry Powell had a shot just go wide.
On 85 minutes, from a Sandford corner, the ball came out to captain Sam Reeves who smashed it into the goal, 3-3.
The home side were now trying hard for the winner with Bosacki shooting over, then with time running out fast another Sandford corner lead to the ball coming loose in the area and substitute Reece Kelly slotted the ball home.
The full time whistle went with Sandford winning 4-3. Well played lads.
Next Saturday Sandford are home to Chagford, KO 3pm.
