Saturday, October 3 - LORDS XI 5 v MORCHARD BISHOP 0

BEGINNING a run of five away matches, Morchard travelled to Exeter to play the Lords XI, with a bare 11 players.

A lack-lustre first half performance resulted in Morchard trailing 1-0 at half-time.

What was to follow in the second half was even worse, with the Lords thoroughly deserving their five goal winning margin, and leaving Morchard looking for some divine intervention for the following week.

Saturday, October 10 - AXMINSTER 4 v MORCHARD BISHOP 3

Making the long journey to Axminster to play at their plush new stadium, Morchard began the game in a positive manner and took the lead through a Phil Greenslade goal.

We looked comfortable, until a mad 10-minutes spell before half-time saw us concede four quick goals.

The second half began with Morchard taking the initiative with Phil Greenslade netting his second goal of the game, and when an Axminster defender put through his own goal, it seemed all was not lost, but a combination of bad luck and missed chances left Morchard ruing that 10-minutes spell of madness in the first half.

Saturday, October 17 - SAMPFORD PEVERELL 2 v MORCHARD BISHOP 0

A result that doesn’t reflect the performance.

With Sampford Peverell taking the lead in the first half and adding a second in the second half, with a breakaway goal, but from Morchard’s view it was poor finishing as chances went a-begging throughout the game that resulted in another away defeat.

Saturday, October 31 - EXETER UNI 4 v MORCHARD BISHOP 4

Hallowe’en and were we going to see another nightmare performance from the Bishops? Not judging by the way the first half went, with Morchard playing good controlled football and taking the lead through Nolan Pierce, and missing some good opportunities to be further ahead.

The second half erupted into life straight from kick off, with the students scoring two quick goals to take the lead.

Then our player Jack Tweedie was fouled in the penalty box, up stepped Daniel Harvey to equalise from the spot.

A controversial penalty decision gave the students a chance to restore their lead which they did, to lead 3-2.

Back came the Bishop’s to equalise through Dean Tickner, and substitute Michael Tapp scoring with his first touch to put Morchard 4-3 ahead.

When the referee awarded a fortunate penalty it seemed we might be able to make the game safe, but the students ‘keeper saved the spot kick from Daniel Harvey, it set up a nervous few last minutes.

With seconds remaining the students grabbed an equaliser with the last kick of the game.

Perhaps with October over we can hope our luck will change.
