A VILLAGE football club in Mid Devon has closed and the club has officially withdrawn from the Devon and Exeter Football League.

Morchard Bishop Football Club Committee, in the September issue of the village newsletter, “The Morchard Messenger”, write: “Following yet another season of struggling both on and off the pitch, it has become only too apparent that it would have been impossible to keep the Football Club running with an ever-decreasing number of local players and helpers.

“It has been a very difficult decision to take, especially with all the hard work that these helpers and players put in over the years.

“With the group getting smaller and smaller as the seasons go by, and no new interest coming from the village, the decision was inevitable.

“We thank everyone who has helped over the many successful years of Morchard Bishop Football Club, from players, committee members and supporters, we would love to mention you all, but you know who you are and our loyal supporters.”

The committee listed a number of local businesses which has supported the club and added: “One lasting legacy from which the village will benefit is the training lights which belong to the Football Club and will provide a lifesaver to the village as the night landing site for the Devon Air Ambulance.”
