BEFORE the start of their game against Budleigh Salterton at the opening of Crediton United AFC’s new season, everyone stood in silence for a minute in memory of their referee, James Uren.
With them was Wesley Martin of Courtney’s Garage continuing their sponsorship of strip for the First team.
Courtney’s Garage had sponsored the First team kit last year. As well as the workshops and MoT bay at Copplestone they run the car sales on Union Road in Crediton.
James had been at a match at Crediton the day before he died. A club spokespersn said he had been a very reliable referee, always ready if needed at short notice.
Of his three sons, two have followed him into refereeing and they gained enormous respect when they insisted on running the line the day after James died. The club said he would be sorely missed.
A reunion of former players is being organised by Dave Blanchford for Saturday, September 1.
Dave said that any former players are welcome to go along.
There will be an FA Vase match against Clevedon at Lords Meadow with a 3pm kick-off.

There will be sausage and chips at around 5pm. The clubhouse will be open from 1pm.
