A FORMER Crediton young woman is seeking sponsorship for a women’s football team.

Jess Milford (25), who originally lived and worked in the town, has been selected to play football for a team which will represent Great Britain.

The GB Swans were established in January 2016 by two England Vixens players, after the Vixens victory at the 2015 Euro Cup.

As the GB Bulldogs (the men’s team), have been around for many years, and due to the growth of women’s football in Britain, it was realised that there was scope to create a Woman’s team with sights on entering the International Cup in Melbourne in 2017.

The GB Swans have appeared in two tournaments since their establishment, the Champions League in Amsterdam and the AFL London PreSeason Cup in Peckham, where they were victorious on both occasions.

One of the biggest events in AFL Europe’s calendar is the European Championships that take place from August 15 to 20. A total of 25 ladies from across the country, including Jess, have been picked to represent their country in this fast and exciting game, played on a large Oval with 18 players on each team.

Jess found her love for the game whilst living in Melbourne.

She and the Swans are currently looking for sponsorship and ask that anyone is able to help, can they please contact Alan Quick at the “Crediton Courier” on 01363 774263 or email: [email protected] .
