DEVON FA’s Coach Road headquarters at Newton Abbot made a great setting for the recent Torbay Financial Services Under 14 Devon Girls Cup Final played out between Crediton Youth FC and Plymouth Aspire.
Crediton started the first half the stronger side with Talitha Roche testing the Aspire ‘keeper early on.
Jessica Sandland then burst through into the penalty box and neatly tucked the ball into the back of the net to put Crediton 1-0 up.
Following an Aspire attack only a fine double save from Crediton ‘keeper Hollie Seward kept the scores level. Shortly afterwards a long distance effort from Millie Robinson clipped the outside of the Aspire post.
Despite several corners and a lot of possession Crediton Youth just could not get the all important second goal.
As the half drew to a close the Crediton defence and goalkeeper were being slightly more tested.
Aspire started the second half very strongly, and despite a fine save from Hollie Seward, the rebound fell to Ellie Sara who slotted the ball into the net to bring the scores level. Aspire had to withstand some Crediton pressure but were effectively starting to play on the counter attack. One such move found Rosie Train free on goal to blast Aspire to a 2-1 lead.
As the game progressed both ‘keepers were forced to make some fine saves. But as Crediton pushed for the equaliser the game became very stretched and with five minutes remaining Ellie Sara smashed the ball home, from the edge of the area to make it 3-1 to Aspire.
The Crediton girls can be extremely proud of their performance in an exciting final, which again promoted girls football in Devon in such a positive way.
Everyone at Crediton Youth would like to thank all those that travelled down to Newton Abbot to support the girls and to Bedford and Co Accountants of Crediton who so generously sponsored new training tops for the final.
