MONDAY, June 6 saw some fine scoring at Downes Crediton Golf Club in the Seniors June Medal with Ron Berry taking top spot with a nett 66.

This score also gave Ron victory in Division Two by five shots over Danny Enright (71) with Vaughan Galavan third posting a nett 73.

Jim Downing won Division One and, finished second overall, putting together a solid nett 67. Mike Charnock followed on in second place with a nett 68 beating Alan Willey into third (68) with a superior back nine holes.

Wednesday, June 8 saw Downes men compete for the Les Pope Cup, a Stableford for the over 55’s.

Once again there was some terrific scoring with Mike Charnock taking the honours with a six under par 42 points.

Jim Kenshole took second place putting together 41 points whilst David Moss came third on 38 points, beating a group of players with a better back nine.

Also played on the Wednesday was the Mid-Week Stableford and once again Oliver Greenslade took top spot.

This week he posted 40 points which also saw his handicap change from four to three. Darren Clifford finished second on 39 points whilst Matt Dyne (38) was third, a point further back.

Ying Wong stole the show in the Ladies County Stableford Five on Thursday, June 9 scoring a fabulous 41 points to win by six points from her nearest challenger Stacey Ford.

Stacey’s 35 points was enough to win the Silver Division by a point from Tracey Chandler (34) whilst Ying won the Bronze Division One from Sue Jackson (32).

Bronze Division Two was won by Ros McIntyre with 34 points.

Saturday, June 11 saw members and visitors compete for the Kirton Cup, a three player team two scores to count stableford open. With a downpour of rain early in the afternoon, which saw play delayed for over an hour, it turned out that the last team to leave the course, consisting of the Honiton trio Dan Handford, James Drew and Darren Morgan, took the victory.

Their 12 under par total of 84 points beat the Downes team of Matt Arnold, Steve Whyte and Tristan Kershaw (83) into second by a single point.

Third place went to Boringdon Parks’ Andy Bleasdale, Adam Howard and Daniel Whitehurst who scored 81 points.
