Central 2-3 Crediton

LAST season was cut short due to Covid-19 and even though it is still here now, we have been able to start our season again with appropriate measures in place.

Our first fixture on October 10 against top of the table Colyton didn’t quite go according to plan with a defeat. It didn’t start well: due to a last minute change of postcode members of the team went to the wrong pitch, turning up just a few minutes before kick off.

One of our players (Reece) was in such a rush to get on the pitch he was seen trying to exit a moving car. Joe H did manage a consolation goal in the 5-1 defeat, but I reckon that is enough said about that match…

We played Central away at the weekend entering into it better prepared and wanting the three points, going in 1-0 at half time thanks to a goal from Finn, assisted by Tyler. Dave Jose Hughes, DIY Dave and Dazza, aka the Coaches, gave us a half time talk encouraging us to carry on playing as we were.

Central however came out fighting and wanting a comeback. Big Joe and Sam came to our rescue on a couple of occasions, and the safe hands from goalie Reece kept the score at 0-1.

Against the run of play, Finn chased another through ball from Tyler, rounded the keeper, taking what felt like the rest of the morning to finally tap it in. 0-2 Crediton.

Central found the back of the net after a few chances and putting Crediton under pressure : 1-2 Crediton. Crediton retained their two goal cushion when Finn was bundled over by Central’s keeper in the box. Finn stepped up and scored the penalty – 1-3 Crediton and a hat-trick for Finn.

Central had the best of the rest of the game after scoring a second, making it a nervy and long final five minutes until the ref’s whistle blew.

Final score 2-3 Crediton. Well done lads.

The next match will be on against St Martin’s at home under the lights (Crediton United main pitch).
