Crediton Youth 0 South Molton 6

WITH Storm Jorge forecast, Crediton Youth U14s found themselves playing their “Home” fixture against South Molton, in North Molton, 29 miles away! South Molton kindly hosted the match as our pitch was unplayable.

“Wrap up warm” they said - the pre match message from their managers. We knew we were in trouble when the opposition arrived, dressed up for the elements like “Kenny” from South Park (Google him if you don’t know the character)!

We had “coat-envy" as they wore their enormous Dry Robes to keep them warm and dry in the conditions.

Just four of these coats would keep our whole team warm as we could fit three players in each one (Age Harvey/Martin Daniel ?!).

We found ourselves playing on a pitch on top of a hill – the highest point for miles.

Our coach Dave “Jose" Hughes was still wearing his shorts, but we overheard him saying he was going to put the heater on in the car on the way home!

As the game kicked off, so did Storm Jorge with heavy hail stinging the exposed areas of our body.

Our favourite ref, Fred, who is always full of encouragement and banter, stopped the game for our own safety. We took what shelter we could, under a hedge.

For the first 15 minutes it was an even game with both teams having chances. However, by half time we were 3-0 down.

The sun came out in the second half, but unfortunately our football was no brighter.

The final score was 6-0 to South Molton.

Our goalie, Reece once again put in another outstanding performance. He was kept busy, with no time to admire the tractors!

To quote Jurgen Klopp following his team’s defeat against Watford, “If you win good, if you lose, try to do it in the right manner and do it like a man.” We still show our togetherness and team spirit, leaving the pitch smiling.

All good runs come to an end, hopefully our bad run will too and results will start coming our way......
