Devon Premier Cup - Round 4
CREDITON 4 - GALMPTON UNITED 1
CREDITON welcomed Galmpton to Lords Meadow on December 3 for the last 16 Devon Premier Cup clash, just three weeks after a 2-0 triumph over them, away from home in the league.
Crediton welcomed back winger Steve Morish from a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he badly cut himself.
There was also a return to the starting 11 for Kieran Stone and McCann was handed a midfield role due to major unavailability.
The game started at a slow pace as both sides tried to gain a foothold in proceedings. It came to life in the 15th minute as the ball broke free in the midfield and Bradford nodded the ball into the channel, Morish was onto it in a flash and carried the ball 30 yards, cutting inside the full-back and calmly slotting past Griffiths.
Crediton began to dominate from then on, without creating too many chances and they went into the break with a slender 1-0 advantage.
The second half started in the worst possible fashion. After some sloppy play on the edge of their own box the ball was cleared and hit Galmpton midfielder Shwenn on the arm. However, to the home side’s amazement the referee played on and visiting striker JT slammed home from 20 yards.
A setback for the Kirton side but they soon regained the lead.
After some neat build up play, Lee slotted the ball into the path of Bradford who made no mistake.
Groom was introduced from the bench and had an immediate impact, after being put clean through on goal, he was hauled down by defender Farkins and the referee had no choice but to brandish the red card.
Things got worse for the visitors, as from the resulting free-kick, Goss’ strike took a considerable deflection and sailed past the helpless ‘keeper Griffiths.
This was ultimately game over and Crediton added some gloss to the scoreline late on, with a fourth goal from top scorer Blake.
A comfortable victory in the end for the home side, who never really got out of third gear.
Crediton to the away side for a battling performance, as they arrived with a much changed side from the previous league meeting.
The quarter final should be a cracker, as Crediton have been drawn at home to unbeaten North Devon outfit Braunton.
