THE 84th AGM of Crediton Bowling Club took place at the Bowling Club Pavilion in Newcombes Meadow, where Club chairman, Edward Staite, welcomed members to the well-supported meeting.
He then asked them to observe a minutes silence in memory of club members who had died during the past year.
In their reports at the meeting, the chairman and secretary, Christine Marshall, both made comments on the help and support they had received from members who had worked hard to make the club run smoothly.
Treasurer, Karen Theedom, said she was pleased with the overall financial position of the club, and there will be no increase in club subscriptions for the coming year.
Joan Martin, Murial Scott and Mary Abbott all played in the John’s Trophy – with Jill Heal a squad member of the team.
Martin and Scott also played in the team that won the Walker Cup at Royal Leamington Spa. Martin also reached the finals day of the over 55’s singles for the third year running.
The two main Club Championships were won by Men’s: Terry Chamberlain with Trevor Newbery runner-up and Ladies’ winner was Joan Martin with Margaret Chaplin as runner-up.
Crediton ladies’ also retained the Exeter and District League title and team Yellow also won the over 50’s ladies’ First Division.
Crediton men reached the quarter finals of the Devon County Trophy and Robert Paxton continues to bowl at International level.
Crediton had the honour of having club member of 47 years, John Theedom, as Bowls Devon County Men’s President.
Richard Gunn and Christine Marshall are to be presented with their “County Badges” next season.
Election of Officers: President Mrs D Richards, Chairman Mr E Staite, Secretary M/s C Marshall, Treasurer Mrs K Theedom, Fixture Secretary Mrs J Martin, Bar Secretary and Premises Manager Mr P Martin, Welfare Officer Mrs M Abbott, Competition Secretary Mrs D Richards, Ladies’ Section Secretary Mrs J Martin, Green Manager Mr E Staite.
Management Committee: Mr J Abbott, Mr W Crilly and Mr C Ladd. There is one major change to this committee where Mrs J Martin takes over as Fixture Secretary from long-serving Mrs M Stevens who sadly died recently.
This coming season Eric Flower will be Captain with Michael Haywood as Vice Captain and Jill Heal as ladies’ Captain with Mary Abbott as Vice Captain.
