CREDITON UNITED 1 - HONITON TOWN 0

A WIN for Crediton over local rivals Honiton at Lords Meadow on a Friday night and with a sizeable crowd for the evening kick off.

The catalyst for the victory in this South West Peninsula League East game was yet again Will Collins, whose 6th minute goal was enough to defeat the lads from East Devon and he now has an incredible 10 goals in the first seven games of the season.

Crediton were once more without Kevin Pike and small changes were made in the makeup of the team which seems to be taking shape now they have played together a bit more.

This was a competitive match throughout and Honiton indeed played their part in it.

As early as the sixth minute Collins scored a classic striker's goal which culminated in him lifting the ball clinically over the goalie making it 1-0 to the Kirton. Astonishingly this was the only goal of the game.

Dave Lee soon had a header well saved by the keeper and then disaster as a Honiton player was clumsily brought down in the area and the ref had no hesitation in awarding a penalty.

After a slight delay, the ball was hoofed over the bar in the direction of Exeter and the groans of the Honiton faithful was evident.

Just before half time Alex Bond, who was superb throughout, shot just wide.

Although the second half was competitive there was little to write home about as both sides took the game to each other.

Subs were made and only a wonderful double save from the Honiton keeper prevented Will Collins from adding to his tally.

There were good performances on both sides but Crediton kept a clean sheet for the first time this season.

They were cautious at the back but the passing game was good and the speed of the attacking moves when they came was also very good to see.

This is Crediton's second league win of the season and takes them into the top half of the table.

Next week we are off to a new ground, Ilminster Town, so hopefully the good performances will continue as we get the map out.

Well done to Paul and the lads.
