CREDITON UNITED 5 - BUDE TOWN 3

A FIVE-STAR performance from young Will Collins proved the catalyst for this Crediton United win against Bude Town in the FA Vase First Qualifying Round.

Will scored a classic striker’s hat trick and was also responsible for two assists for Lukey White as the Kirton triumphed over the visitors setting up an interesting tie in the next round at home to Street.

This was Will's second hat trick of the season and he now is the top scorer in the Division with nine goals from his first six matches.

The game did not start well for the home side as Bude won a free kick just outside the box and keeper Leyton only succeeded in deflecting the ball into the net for 0-1.

However by half time Crediton had got the game where they wanted it and scored four goals before the break which gave them the sort of lead that hopefully would win the game.

Firstly Will Collins got away from the defence and squared the ball to Lukey White who was in the perfect place to slide the ball home for 1-1.

This was in the 18th minute and two minutes later Crediton took the lead as a good move ended with Will Collins tapping the ball into the Bude net for 2-1.

It was now all Crediton and in the 34th minute Will hoofed the ball past a despairing goalie and Crediton went further ahead, 3-1.

A fourth goal was added as a fine run from Will, managing to keep his feet despite two separate defenders attempting to send him crashing to the floor.

Once more he passed the ball to Lukey who shot home, 4-1 after 38 minutes.

Quite a turn around for the home side and they would have enjoyed the half time orange more than the visitors.

In the second half Bude had obviously got the bit between their teeth and came out fighting.

Time after time they surged forward and Lewis Leyton tipped a fine header just over the bar, keeping the lead intact.

The half was only five minutes old when Bude hit back as the Crediton defence failed to challenge the new striker who scored a fine individual goal, 4-2.

On 56 minutes it was Will Collins again and he scored his hat trick goal, latching on to a long through ball and striding past all comers he shot the ball into the bottom right hand corner to complete what for him was a great match.

Then, disaster as Lewis Leyton brought a Bude player down in the box and the ref had no problem in awarding a penalty.

Lewis dived to his right and kept the effort out though, making up for his previous indiscretion. Still Town were not for turning and Lewis once more came to the rescue keeping out a free kick.

Then on 84 minutes, Bude scored a third goal with a shot from the edge of the area. Less than 10 minutes to go and the score was now 5-3.

There was still time for Will Collins to be denied a fourth as his fierce shot went just over.

Having dominated the second half Bude fell just short but it had been a good match, although neither side defended particularly well and possession was lost consistently throughout the game.

A great win for the Kirton though and we look forward to welcoming Honiton on Friday night.
