A TRIP to Exwick Playing Fields last Saturday, July 12 saw Sandford Cricket Club Thirds demolish the home team, Exwick Seconds, with the game lasting under 30 overs.
Sandford won the toss and inserted their hosts, who they then promptly dismissed for only 71 in 18.2 overs. The damage for the home team was initially created by 14-year-old Jonno Handley bowling seam up and claiming four for 17 in only four overs. Glyn Baker again chipped in with three-35 (eight) to continue his good form, and Ben Clements two-12 (five), as Exwick had no answer to the Sandford attack.
With Elliott Butterfield back in the team, and opening the batting, his rapid 29 not out (five fours) together with Will Street’s 24 not out (five fours) saw the Sandford boys make the 72 runs required for the loss of one wicket in only 11.2 overs, and an early return to Creedy Park to join in the evening's activities.
The 20 points gained now moves the thirds to within two points of G Division Central league leaders North Molton, who despite gaining another win, actually dropped one point in their 19-point victory.
The Thirds entertain local rivals Cheriton Fitzpaine this Saturday at Creedy Park with a 1pm start.
