THE Devon Cricket League is now into its third week and Sandford Cricket Club’s First XI have made an indifferent start to their 2025 campaign.
The first weekend saw them play Exeter at home, but unfortunately came out second best losing by 57 runs. Exeter 267 - 9 (50 overs) J.Palmer 3-48 (10); Sandford 210 (48.3) H.Jones 53, B.Handley 35, J.Thompson 37. Exeter 20 points Sandford 8.
The second weekend came with a success at Plymouth by 86 runs. Sandford 313-6 (50) L.Walker 105, H.Hones 91, J.Theedom 36*; Plymouth 227 (42.4) A.Lakra 5-26 (10) Sandford 20 points (Plymouth 7).
Last weekend unfortunately saw another defeat at home to Bradninch the current Premier League champions by three wickets. Sandford 224 (42.2) R.Hunter 47, L.Walker 36, J.Thompson 36; Bradninch 225-7 (41.1). Sandford 7 points, Bradninch 20.
As a result Sandford now lie in fifth place in the Devon Premier League with a visit next weekend to Paignton for a 12.30pm start.
Sandford's progress in the National Cup was also brought to an end a couple of weekends a go when they lost at home to Paignton by six wickets. Sandford 199-7 (30) R.Hunter 78*, B.Knowles 39, A.Lakra 31; Paignton 200-4 (25.5).
Sandford Cricket Club's Second XI have made a great start to their 2025 campaign with three wins from their first three matches.

10.11.25 Exeter Home won by 124 runs - Sandford Seconds 291-3 T.Gidney 117, B.Handley 67*, R.Glass 52; Exeter Seconds 167 (34.5) R.Glass 4-36, Ellie Bishop 3-15. Sandford Seconds 20 points, Exeter 5.
17.11.25 Ottery St Mary Away won by six runs - Sandford Seconds 225-6 T.Maidment 63*, R.Glass 40; Ottery St.Mary 219-5 (45) R.Glass 3-34. Sandford Seconds 17 points, Ottery 8.
The Seconds currently sit second in the C Division East with a home game this coming weekend against Alphington and Countess Wear, 1pm start.

17.5.25 - Cheriton Fitzpaine Away won by 84 runs. Sandford Thirds 254-9 (40) Jon James 134; Cheriton Fitzpaine 170-4 (40). Sandford Thirds 17 points, Cheriton 8.
Sandford Thirds currently lie in third spot in G Division Central on 47 points and this coming weekend are at home to league leaders Paignton Fourths, 1pm start.
