IT was sunny and dry for Newton St Cyres Primary School Sports Day held at the village Recreation Ground.

The afternoon included short running races for reception and year age groups one to six and these were followed by egg and spoon races, mixed sack relays, mixed baton relays, happy hopper races, a dressing up obstacle relay and an extreme relay.

During the morning the children took part in field events, including javelin, shot put, bean bag accuracy and the standing long jump.

The cow happy hopper race was great fun for the younger children.

Mr Akhurst said: “Well done to all the children who took part and a big thank you to FANS (Friends of Newton School) and the parent volunteers who helped put on the barbecue and refreshments afterwards.”
