MORE than 250 people in 62 teams took part in this year’s Rotary Club of Crediton Industrial Bowls tournament, hosted by Crediton Bowling Club.

Peter Martin, from Crediton Bowling Club, said that the teams took part in the competition this year during a two-week period, the weather delaying some early matches, adding that these caught up during a fine weekend.

The teams of four or more people came from many of the town’s businesses, clubs and organisations.

The competition has been run on an annual basis for more than 40 years.

The semi-finals took place between R J Tyres and Crediton Squash and Racquet Club and the Runaways versus The Lamb Inn.

The finalists were The Lamb Inn and Crediton Squash and Racquet Club.

Paul Evans, president, the Rotary Club of Crediton, said it was a “close match” during the final with The Lamb Inn team winning 22-17.

The awards were presented by Mr Evans, who thanked all the teams who took part, Crediton Bowling Club for hosting the tournament and Andy Gibson, Rotary Club of Crediton secretary, who contacted all the entrants.

He said the annual event had encouraged previous contestants to take up bowling at Crediton.

Mr Martin added that he was encouraged that quite a few teams had played without an experienced bowling club member this year and praised Helmores team, which was one of these, which made it to the quarter finals.
