A NEW ride is starting in April for people who have a bike, but need some encouragement to get out, and need a boost of confidence in riding on the roads.
Kath Bowen and Kate Lock ride leaders, from Bike Shed Breezers, are running it as part of British Cycling’s campaign to encourage women to get back on the saddle, although this ride is open to women and men.
Kath and Kate explained: “Do you have a bike looking at you each time you go in the garage, but are not sure about negotiating junctions, or tackling a right hand turn?
“We will be doing a quick bike check at the beginning of the ride.
“We’ll teach you to check your brakes, chain and gears. And then we will go out for a short ride around Crediton as a group.
“It won’t be long or fast – less than an hour and at a gentle pace. It will hopefully get you a bit more confident and spur you on to getting out on the bike regularly.”
The duo added: “We won’t expect any Lycra! But a helmet is essential.
“Come in your normal clothing (a rain jacket is a good idea), and don’t worry if you don’t feel fit – one of the best ways to get fitter is to start cycling. “We will go at the speed of the slowest, and enjoy being outside, in good company.
“So if you fancy trying out a gentle ride, come along to Crediton Town Square on Saturday, April 20, at 10am.
“We will be in the centre of the Farmers’ Market in bright jackets looking out for you! It’s free to all.”
