THE weekend of June, 10 and 11 saw Crediton Youth Football Club hold its annual six-a-side tournament at Lords Meadow.

With a full entry of 192 teams it was always going to be a busy weekend for the organisers.

The reduced parking owing to the Lidl’s development, was always going to be an interesting challenge for the committee.

But on both days all teams had arrived and were parked ahead of schedule. As always the weather was due to be changeable!

This year saw many changes behind the scenes, with Ross Brealy taking over from Lisa Champ as tournament secretary and Jim Southall taking over from Sally Anne Daniel as programme editor.

The club wish to thank both Lisa and Sally Anne for their hard work and major contribution to the growth of the tournament.

It was also the end of an era in the results tent as Mike Langhorne stepped down after years of dedicated services to be replaced this year by his daughter Katie Sims along with Kelly Wheetman, Ross Brealy, and Stuart Poole.

Mike Langhorne along with Mike and Aly Edworthy will always be remembered by so many as the welcoming faces of the Crediton Youth tournament.

The club wish to thank them all for the amazing contribution and part they have played in making the event one of the most popular and best run tournaments in the South West over the years.

Rob Stoyle admirably stepped up to the position of Chief Referee taking over from Dan Uren.

The club would also like to thank Dan for his contribution to the event both as a referee and in heading up the team of officials.

Once again the club received many complements over the standard of the officials during the weekend and how refreshing it was to see so many younger referee’s present.

As always the club wish to thank all the many businesses that sponsor and support the event, especially A and S Paving and Crediton Dairy, the main sponsors. Without all their support the tournament just would not be viable.

Special thanks must go as well to Crediton Rugby club for all their assistance.

Finally congratulations must go to the committee and all the volunteers who work so hard to put on such a popular event.

There was some success for Crediton Youth sides, with the U14 Trojans winning their age group.

This being the fifth consecutive time this age group has won its own tournament.

The U14 Girls, U12 and U10 girls all had to settle for runners-up, along with the U9 Panthers.
