MOTORISTS travelling in the Crediton area and other parts of Devon might have encountered lots of cyclists, about 1,500 to be precise, on Sunday, June 30.

They were taking part in the annual bike ride The Nello, a charity fundraiser in aid of local charity, FORCE.

It started and finished at Topsham Rugby Club and the cyclists, which included many from the Crediton area, covered either a 100 or 55-mile route.

Those on the longer route cycle as far as Exmoor.

The cycling event raises about £80,000 a year for the FORCE cancer charity.

The Nello was formerly known as the Century Cycle Challenge. It started in 2000, in memory of former Topsham restaurateur Nello Ghezzo.

FORCE works locally to offer face-to-face support for anyone affected by cancer. It is an independent charity, founded in 1987, which provides help for patients, their families and friends at its Support Centre in the grounds of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
