IN The Red Lion Inn in Shobrooke last week, the Shobrooke and Stockleigh Pomeroy Writing Group launched an anthology of their work in aid of Refugee Support Devon.

"Words Without Walls" is a collection of poetry, memoir and short stories written by members of the group.

As Heather Chadwick explained: "We wanted to do something to help the much needed work of Refugee Support, and we hope that people will enjoy our writing while contributing to the Charity at the same time.”

The launch was attended by more than 30 members of the public.

Refugee Support Devon Trustees David Mezzetti and Peter Bainbridge gave a short talk about the work of the charity, particularly in Exeter which is part of the national City of Sanctuary Grassroots Movement.

Writing Group members read out extracts from the book, which ranged from the light-hearted to the deeply moving. Musical entertainment was provided by local band "The Woodmen" and "The Shobrooke Singing Group".

Peter Bainbridge said: "We are immensely grateful to the writing group for the fund-raising, and I highly recommend the book as a very good read.”

"Words Without Walls" is priced £4.95 and is on sale at the Crediton Community Bookshop.

All proceeds are donated to Refugee Support Devon.
