A WINKLEIGH lad recently “Braved the Shave” in memory of his “Nandad” Michael “Mike” Bridgman who passed away in September 2021.

Archie Bridgman (14), undertook the sponsored “Head Shave” for Macmillan Cancer Support at the Kings Arms in Winkleigh, and has so far raised more than £1,000.

Archie is a keen rugby player at Crediton Rugby Club and pupil of Chulmleigh Community College.

“Nandad” Michael was a well-known local figure who had lived in Winkleigh all his life with his wife of over 50 years, Margaret, a well-loved local child minder, and their four children, Mandy, Mark (Archie’s dad), Martin and Miles.

Michael was a larger-than-life figure within the community known to many as “Uncle Mike”.

Archie’s family say they are “blown away” by the level of community support Archie has received for his shave and want to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped to make it happen and have supported him with donations.

They added: “Special thanks to Faye and Richard of the Kings Arms for allowing us to take over the pub for the afternoon, Richard Moore for undertaking the primary cut and the lovely Sally Bissett for wielding the clippers for the final assault”.
