LARGE areas of the South West were last night, Monday, January 19, treated to colourful views of the Aurora Borealis, the result of solar eruptions sending particles towards Earth and the subsequent interaction of those particles with the Earth's atmosphere.
The Met Office said that a coronal mass ejection (CME), a large eruption of charged matter from the Sun, left the Sun on Sunday which was likely "to bring aurora across Scotland, Northern Ireland, northern England, and potentially further south".
Many people were treated to great views of the Northern Lights.

Red, pink, green and changing colours could be seen across the South West for a period.
