HOW I do agree with your correspondent who wrote about the lunacy of the "Windmill Memorandum". Abysmally expensive and ineffectual. Why, exactly?

Well, if we need to clean up our energy act, it will no longer be possible to burn oil or gas to run the heating at home.

It'll have to be electric: and we will all want to be plugging in our new electric cars and vans.

Demand for electricity will race FAR ahead of current production.

We would need a windmill each...think of the planning headaches that would cause!

Doubtless the government is waiting for a head of anti windmill steam to build, so that nuclear, the obvious choice, becomes more acceptable, with carbon capture from new gas/oil fired power stations keeping us going in the short to medium term.

Windmills are just window dressing.
