VOLUNTEERS are being sought by the Friends of Crediton Station.

The Friends’ group is keen to recruit more new members with green fingers to help them care for the flower beds and planters in 2017 at their monthly sessions on Thursday mornings.

New volunteers are invited to join in a planting session at the station on the morning of Thursday, January 12, from 10am and finishing at noon with refreshments in the Crediton Station Tea Rooms.

The February session will be on Thursday, February 9, at the same times.

On Thursday, December 8 the Friends’ planted hyacinths, daffodils and tulips to provide a colourful display for passengers in the Spring.

For more than 10 years, the Friends’ have brightened up the town railway station’s platforms with attractive flower beds and planters.

Crediton Town Councillor Mike Szabo, from the Friends’ group, said: “We welcome local people to join us to keep the station platforms looking bright and colourful.

"We take a lot of pride in our planting at the station.”

Great Western Railway Station Manager Melanie Harvey, said: "The Friends of Crediton Station link the local community into the local rail network and it’s wonderful to see people who are willing to give their time freely to improve the local environment.
