PUPILS in Team One at Landscore Primary School in Crediton started their new topic of Farms and Farming with a virtual visit to Miss Coney’s Farm.

Miss Coney, a Year Two teacher at the school, grew up on a farm in Mid Devon and still lives there today.

She filmed her father, Farmer Richard, as he went about his daily animal checks on the farm and explained to the children about the jobs he was completing.

The pupils joined Farmer Richard as he let out the chickens, fed the Highland cows, bottle fed the orphaned lambs and checked on the goats.

Farmer Richard then returned to the farmhouse for a well earned breakfast of eggs and bacon.

During the following three days the children used the video to construct a spider diagram, making notes and then writing a full account of Farmer Richard’s morning.

On the Thursday a new video was uploaded featuring other jobs on the farm including topping the field, collecting the eggs and dealing with a fallen tree.

The pupils were then challenged to write a diary entry about an imaginary day they spent with Farmer Richard, helping out on the farm.

Exciting news was shared on the Friday when Mississippi, the goat featured in the original film gave birth to twin kids, a boy and a girl, and the children were thrilled to see photos and a short video of the babies.

Another activity set for the pupils in Years One and Two was to make a small world farm using toys or other things at home. There were some very impressive and original farms created.

Parents have been sending in photos of the work completed and the children with their models.

It was a lovely way for the children to see each other, and individual replies from the teachers were appreciated.
