THE story appeared in the "Courier" on Friday, February 27, issue 1022.

The need for a new primary school for Crediton has been described in a Mid Devon District Council report as "critical."

Located within the Pedlarspool development the new 210 pupil school would be part-funded by the developer. The total estimated cost is £2.8million plus land.

The District Council's Draft Infrastructure Plan lists as "desirable" minor expansion to both Hayward's and Landscore Primary Schools, which may be a temporary measure.

The story also included comments from Cllr Martin Binks about his concerns that with the proposed 500 new houses on the North East of the town, the existing primary schools would not be able to cope and a new one would be needed.

He also expressed concerns for the large number of extra cars getting from housing developments onto the A377 causing potential problems in Exhibition Road.

What you told us ..........

One of my children attends Landscore Primary School which is already over-crowded. A new school would be good, but what about a new doctors surgery? That many houses will have a huge impact on the town and the traffic. It would be more acceptable if they improved the infra-structure first. Crediton is such a friendly town and I have lived here for many years. People are so friendly and talk to you in the street. I also lived in Copplestone for a while, which has become a "commuter town" and is not as friendly or nice to live in as Crediton. Heidi Marie, (with Verity (3), Crediton.

Do we need a new school? I don't think I would like that many new houses in Crediton. It would be chaos on the roads. We are a nice compact town with nice shops. Where would all those people park?

That works out to about 2,000 more people and a lot more cars – it's a nonsense without improvements to the infrastructure like the doctors. How will they expand the existing schools will they take away the playing fields?
