Views on the News - Council tax could rise by £10 for band D
THE story appeared in the Courier on Friday, November 14, issue 1007.
Crediton Town Council considered whether to add £13,000 to its precept to double its "localism" pot, ( this has now been agreed)
This would mean an extra of approximately £10 per year on the council tax for a Band D property.
The suggestion was put forward by the town clerk, Clare Dalley and will be on the agenda for the Town Council's finance and general purposes meeting in December.
The increase in the number of house being built in the town, from 2,484 to 2,533 will increase the amount going into the Town Council purse.
The figures would allow £17,000 for "localism" projects, which could mean there is more money available for contributing to the town's public toilets, youth provision, gritting or a snow warden.

What you told us ..........
It's worth paying a little more if it helps keep the toilets open. It's handy when you have little ones – they need to go right away. If they prove that the extra money will be used for that purpose I wouldn't mind.
Janet Caldwell, Crediton
I'm dead against it. I recently had to get rid of a fridge and had to pay extra. The money we pay already is not good value for what we get. It's important to keep the youth facilities open to help keep the crime rate down and I don't mind paying a bit more for that. I live in a low crime area and feel that people should be rewarded for living in such areas and pay less to the police.

I don't mind paying a bit more for facilities to stay open. There's nothing worse that no being able to find a toilet when you need one! Gritting has been stopped in some of the outlying district and that £10 could come in handy in those areas when it's really needed.
