Cllr Judi Binks (Mid Devon District Councillor for Sandford and Creedy) told the Courier that Citizens Advice is the first port of call for most of us when facing debt or employment, housing or consumer difficulties because their advice is free, comprehensive and professionally delivered.
At present the Crediton Citizens Advice is open two-days a week thanks to the support from Crediton United Charities and many local parishes and the Tiverton branch operates three days-a-week.
Citizens Advice gives free, confidential information and advice to help people with money, legal, consumer, work-related and many other concerns.
Often finding a solution to a debt problem can help alleviate related issues such as depression and family strife.
Many people, often the most vulnerable, rely on this service because professional legal advice is expensive.
If Crediton Citizens Advice were to close what impact do you think it might have on the town?
What you told us ...
It’s appalling - it’s a vital service for the community. It’s one we can ill-afford to lose. Where would people go to get free advice when they are in difficulties. We must do everything possible to make sure this vital service is not lost to the community.
Senior Resident, Bow
It would be a great shame for a lot of people if it were to close. I don’t use it myself but I appreciate how important it is for many people.
Lapford Resident
It’s not a good move it’s such a good resource. The people who need to use it couldn’t necessarily travel to Exeter. It’s important for Crediton and all the villages in the area. To close it would be a very negative move.
Jacqui Hunt, Crediton
I think it’s disgusting. It was bad enough when they closed the council offices. I’m relying on Citizens Advice myself and they are the only ones who can help. - they point you in the right direction. It’s not fair everything is closing. Crediton will become a ghost town. I’m happy for Citizens Advice to come and use my front room if need be.
