THE story appeared in the Courier on Friday, July 25, Issue 991. Crediton Town Council voted in favour of investigating the feasibility of a scheme to plant four small trees in Crediton High Street. It was suggested that two small trees could be planted at each of the two crossing areas, using slow growing trees, smaller than the ones used at the Town Square. There was some concern that leaf fall from deciduous trees might pose a problem, also that the trees might be a problem for pedestrians and motorists. It was also felt that it was an excellent idea which would add to the street scene. What do you think? Please let me know. What you told us ..........
It depends on what sort of trees – the roots might undermine the road and the houses. It would make the High Street more aesthetically pleasing. Barbara Pratt, Cheriton Fitzpaine
It would be quite nice and would add a bit of colour, but what would the cost be and what would they look like? It is lovely to see the hanging baskets in the High Street. Sandford Resident
I don't think it's a good idea. I do like the hanging baskets but I don't think planting trees will help with the traffic – it's a nightmare now. Meriol Woollacott, Crediton
It might offer a little shade from the sun. I think I'm more for it than against it. If it was just four or five small trees it would be okay. Tim Selley, Crediton
Yes it's a good idea in theory. It's more important for money to be spent on nursing homes and the other services we are losing. Nadine Selley, Crediton
I think that it's a good idea. The square always looks nice – it's a smashing idea. Mary Parsons, Crediton
