Update at 4.30pm: LOCAL residents say that after two hours of work with a tractor to tow the stuck lorry sideways, the road has now re-opened and there is now no traffic backing up onto the A377.MOTORISTS using the A377 between Crediton and Newton St Cyres are advised to be aware of possible queues of traffic on the brow of a hill at Hookway Cross.
An articulated lorry has become wedged on an S-bend along the narrow country lane near Hookway and there are several vehicles, mainly lorries backing up in the lane and until moved on, on the A377.
Traffic is using the narrow lane as an alternative route while roadworks are being carried out at Fordton, including new pavements and road surfaces.
A Hookway resident told the Courier this morning: “I have rung a local councillor who is attending with his tractor to try to pull the stuck lorry out.
“Already this week while it is being used by lorries my property has been struck on more than one occasion by lorries using this route.
“A neighbour has also had a building struck.
“The Crediton Hamlets Parish Council advised Devon County Council that this route would not be acceptable while the Fordton works took place and now it is chaos.”
He added that some vehicles were turning around in the car park at Downes Crediton Golf Club but vehicles from the other direction were now stuck in the narrow lane.
Further updates as we have them.
