TWO road collisions in Crediton within half an hour of each other caused traffic chaos as roads in the area became gridlocked earlier this evening (Wednesday, July 20).

Just after 5pm a two-vehicle collision occurred at Jockey Hill with the junction of Longmeadows.

The driver of one of the vehicles, a silver-coloured VW Lupo, had to be cut free from the car, Crediton firefighters removing the roof of the car to gain access.

The driver was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital after treatment at the scene by an ambulance crew.

It is believed that the driver did not sustain serious injury.

The driver of a blue Audi A3 was also treated at the scene by an ambulance crew and was not believed to be seriously injured.

Air bags in both cars inflated and both vehicles sustained very serious damage.

A Devon and Cornwall Police officer, speaking at the scene, said that the injuries sustained “did not appear life-threatening” to the drivers.

He appealed for witnesses and asked that anyone who may have seen the collision to please contact him using the 101 number.

The log number for the accident was 618 of Wednesday, July 20.

Less than half an hour later, a white Hyundai i20 collided with Crediton Tandoori at 137 High Street, Crediton.

The shop front and vehicle sustained serious damage but the female driver escaped without injury.

Neighbouring shopkeepers and residents helped at the scene until the arrival of Crediton firefighters who removed the car from the building and assisted in making the building safe.
