RAIN stopped and the traffic was silent while people stood with bowed heads at the War Memorial on Union Road, Crediton for the fallen of the town and Crediton Hamlets on Saturday morning (November 11).

Maroons let off in Newcombes Meadow signified the start and end of the two minutes’ silence. In some parts of the High Street people stopped for the two minutes, some coming out of their shops to stand in respectful silence.

Chairman of Mid Devon District Council Cllr Peter Heal, who represents Yeo Ward of which Hamlets is part, laid a wreath from that council. With him were his wife, Rita, and grandson, five-years-old Devon.

Members of the public laid a few wreaths, but the majority would be the next day.

With the Mayor of Crediton, Cllr Frank Letch, was the Mayor’s Cadet Cpl Lewis Cook from Crediton Detachment Army Cadet Force.

Traffic was stopped by Cpl Cook and Adult Under Officer (AUO) Tom Parrin from Crediton Detachment.
