ANOTHER of the trees around Crediton town square has been given a surround by the two men who have created these protective circles.
Bert Jewell and Eddie Sherwood put in the surround on Sunday evening. Weeding inside and planting new perennials to give interest through the year was to be another evening.
Bert explained that when people walk through the square they often walk under the trees. So that this space could be planted, he and Eddie came up with the idea of the wood and metal circles.
The half round fencing rails were cut to length for Bert who weather proof treated them. Eddie makes the metal surrounds.
“No, we don’t lift them over the trees, we fit them around the tree,” said Bert.
This is part of Crediton Town Council’s Floral Crediton project, Bert and Eddie giving their time voluntarily, the town council paying for the materials.
The protective surrounds are about 15 feet around. Making and then installing them takes a fair bit of work but eventually all the trees around the town square will have a surround - probably to the disappointment of some dogs.
