FOLLOWING the phenomenal success of their Give and Take pop up shop in February in the High Street, Sustainable Crediton are at it again!
About 7,000 visits were made to the event in February and the majority of them asked “When will it happen again?”
By public demand the Give and Take shop returns for six days at the end of the month but at a new venue, ReFurnish, next door to Morrisons in Mill Street.
It will be open Wednesday to Friday, from 10am to 4pm, for the last two weeks of October.
Paula Mossman, one of the organising group said: “Sustainable Crediton’s Waste Action Group and ReFurnish share a lot in common.
“We both want to keep perfectly good and reusable goods finding new homes and out of landfill. So we were delighted to accept ReFurnish’s invitation to hold our second Pop Up Shop in an unused part of their premises.”
Esther Mann, another of the organisers, said: “So many people asked us to do another Give and Take event that we could not ignore the requests and are delighted to be doing it all again.
“This time we will be open three-days-a-week from October 21 to 23 and October 28 to 31.
“For those people who have not been to our shop before we can accept all household goods, children’s toys, clothes, garden tools etc that are in good reusable condition with just a few exceptions. Sadly due to lack of a market ‘old’ style TV’s and video cassettes cannot be accepted.
“Also because of regulations we cannot take liquids, flammables or opened beauty products and most electricals will be given to ReFurnish to be tested for safety and then sold in their shop.”
In February more than seven tonnes of goods were taken into the Give and Take Shop in the High Street by people who no longer needed them and then taken out again by delighted new owners absolutely free-of-charge.
Esther added: “Many people could not believe that they really could walk away with lovely items for free, but there was no catch, it really was true.
“And just as last time, at this event there is no obligation to bring in goods in order to take them away, all customers are very welcome whether they bring in items they no longer need or just come to ‘shop’.”
Paula continued: “We will be operating the Give and Take Shop in exactly the same way as last time and look forward to welcoming back old friends and making new ones.
“And if you have a few hours to spare and would like to help out in the shop we would love to hear from you. Please call me on 01363 866106. Without our fantastic army of volunteers this event could just not happen.”
