CREDITON Operatic and Dramatic Society (CODS) is delighted to announce that it will be performing the hit musical Jesus Christ Superstar in Crediton from Monday, April 12 to Saturday, April 17, 2010.
Regular readers of the Crediton Country Courier might be surprised to read this when it had already been announced that another show had been chosen.
Members of CODS committee recently attended the annual awards ceremony of NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association).
This was to receive two awards for the Society's most recent production of The Baker's Wife.
The first award was for the best musical production of the year staged in the local NODA area.
The second was for the best set design of the year. Mike Palmer is to be congratulated on this achievement.
The sets that Mike has designed over the past number of years have been truly spectacular considering the Society has to convert Queen Elizabeth's Community College Lower School Hall into a theatre and for this reason, the award is richly deserved.
At the presentation ceremony it was made known to the members present that "The Really Useful Group" are releasing restricted licenses for performances of Jesus Christ Superstar and it could well be worth the Society applying.
Ideally the Society wished the show to be performed in 2011 but the licenses are only available for 2010.
Having submitted the application, Society members were delighted to receive approval and gave 100 per cent backing to a change of show.
Rehearsals will start on Wednesday, October 7 and anyone interested in joining the Society should telephone Mike Canning on 01363 773501.
Mike explained: "This is a truly ambitious and expensive project for the Society to undertake and we hope that the people of Crediton will rally round and support us.
"Please put the dates in your diary and start asking friends and family to come along too."
